Sopapilla Cheese Cake Recipe Page

Someone brought this to Shirley's Annual Girlfriend's Christmas party.  When I asked if they'd share the recipe I was told "The recipe is all over Pinterest, just search for Sopapilla Cheese Cake" and that's where I got it.

They taste much like a cheese danish to me.  It takes very little time or effort to make these, they travel well and everyone liked them on Christmas Eve.

The only thing cut with the Cameo on this page is the recipe card.  Following some instructions from Shirley, I opened the file on From My Kitchen in Design Studio and transferred it into Make The Cut and cut it using that software.

The red embellishments were all done with punches.  The journal card is from a page of them by Kaisercraft that I found at Scraptopia in Ada.

This is a Pinterest photo of them baked.  Some recipes call for a glaze on the top after you bake the dough.  I did mine with just the butter and sugar the recipe calls for.  They're not terribly sweet this way.

Pancit Recipe Page

A super simple page.  I cut some letters using a true type font and Make The Cut software, found a photo of the dish online and added it along with a journal card telling where the recipe came from.

This is a dish my sister shared with me.  She learned to make it while living in California.  It makes an entire wok full, is great hot or cold and keeps several days in the refrigerator.

The border was done with a Stampin' Up punch.

Cinnamon Roll Recipe Page

Today I decided to play with my Cameo using a modified Cricut Expression blade holder.  My husband ground down a flange on the blade holder in order for it to fit into the Cameo.

So far, so good.  I can say that it does not cut as well as the original blade that came with the Cameo.  But I have about twenty packages of Cricut blades on hand to use up; I'm really a cheapskate so I'm going to use them up and save the Cameo blade for projects that I'm more particular about making.

The recipe pages I make are for myself.  They often don't turn out just the way I thought they would.  I enjoy having my favorite recipes done this way and in a binder.

Today's page is for the Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon Rolls that I made just before Christmas.  I wanted the page to look like a souvenir as if I'd visited Oklahoma and got the recipe as a memento.

The Oklahoma shape is from 50 States and the scalloped square is from Elegant Edges.  I found the photos online and mounted them to look like old fashioned pictures.

Tightwad (Timesaver) Tip

If you follow my blog then you know that I love to cook.  Finding recipes that intrigue me is one of my hobbies; keeping up with them until I have a chance to try them isn't.  Usually, when I pick up a copy of American's Test Kitchen, Taste of Home or other recipe magazine, I'll read through all the recipes and turn a corner down on the page if they seem like something Fred and I would enjoy.

But, when it comes time to try out the recipe, it takes me too long to find it in a stack of magazines, all of which have corners turned under!  So, I, who swears that she does NOT do scrapbooks, decided to make a recipe Smash Book.

A .79 composition book is what I used.  I chose some food themed papers, cut out some relevant words and used my Expression to cut the letters for "Try This".

I used the From My Kitchen cartridge to cut some index tabs to divide the book into sections.

Last night while watching TV I picked up the stack of magazines and began clipping out the recipes I wanted to try.
I like having the photos to go with the recipes.  I also think it makes it easier to find in my recipe smash book.

Notice that these recipes sort of look as if they've just been thrown onto the page.  The whole idea of a smash book is to do it in a fun way.

As I try the recipes, I'll write across them if we don't like them.  If they're a keeper, then I type it into a Word document and do an 8 1/2' x 11" recipe layout for my recipe binder.

Clipping the recipes out means I can put the stack of magazines into the recycle bin and not have them taking up so much room on the end table in the living room.  Having them in my recipe Smash Book means when I want to try something different I can just flip through it until I get inspired.

You could also use this same idea to make an inexpensive gift for the college student who's moving into their first apartment.  Just include some of your favorite recipes and some handwritten notes to help them with the preparation.  It's also a good way to store craft ideas you've found in magazines or online.

Shawna's Cheese Dip

About 11 o'clock at the swarm, I smelled something wonderful in the kitchen and had to go check it out.  Shawna Maxwell had brought a crock pot of cheese dip to go with the submarine sandwiches for our lunch.  I've had the Velveeta Cheese and Rotel dip several times and it's okay.  Usually a little hotter than what I care for though. Shawna's recipe is creamier and has a milder pepper flavor to it since she uses Pace Picante sauce instead of the Rotel tomatoes with green chilies.

She was kind enough to share her recipe with all of us at the swarm.  I made it for Fred the very next day and he agrees that it's just pretty darned good!  Knowing that I'd want to keep the recipe and use it again, I made a layout for my Cricut Cookin' recipe album.

The pot was cut with From My Kitchen; I used clip art for the images and just printed the heading on my computer.

Thanks again for sharing this with me Shawna!

The only thing Cricut on this page is the recipe card off of From My Kitchen.

Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches Recipe Page

The complete recipe for making this dish was posted on October 4th.  I'm just now getting around to doing a layout page for my Cricut Cooking recipe book for it.

The words were cut using Plantin Schoolbook, the Eiffel Tower is from the French Manor cartridge, the apron from Block Party.  Design Studio software was used to create the shadow for the apron.  The little red flowers were done with an EK Success punch and then I added a little pen work for some accents.

I'll have to say that this is the best French Dip sandwich recipe I've ever used.  The meat was super tender and the juice was really delicious!

Latest Recipe Pages

Several weeks ago, I posted some squash pickle recipes on my blog and just now got around to doing the pages for my recipe album.

Preserves was used to cut the word "canning"  and the jar came from Doodlecharms.  That's an older cartridge but it will surprise you at how many useful cuts are on it!
Both word "squash" and the squash images were cut using the Freshly Picked cartridge.

I also did a page for the wonderful English Muffin recipe that I posted this week but the recipe was so long there wasn't much room left for any type of embellishment.  That page just has the recipe and a photo of the finished muffins on it.

Zucchini Fries Recipe Page

Making recipe pages is fun for me!  I get to showcase recipes that we like and it's a nice break from making cards all the time.

The pages don't have to be elaborately decorated since I tend to use kitchen themed papers and they look good in my Cricut Cooking album too!

The images I used were found online and printed out in my card making software.

Latest Recipe Pages

I'm not too sure about this one.  The way I placed the ingredients on the page makes it difficult to read.  It took me some time to do the letters.  Using my card maker software, I used different fonts for each letter and then either punched them out or trimmed them by hand.

This page really called out for a chicken image.  None of the ones on my Cricut cartridges were what I wanted and I don't have a stamp of a chicken image.   This is a free clip art image I found online.

The stove doesn't look very good.  I used a SU marker on it and Promarkers for everything else.  No wonder I prefer the Promarkers!  They don't streak like a water based marker does.

I prefer to keep the pages simple so the recipes are easier to read.

When it's too hot to cook....

When it's too hot to cook it's a great time to sort through and organize recipes you want to try out!

Cooking is one of my hobbies.  Buying good cooking magazines such as Taste of Home, Cook's Country, and Cook's Illustrated provides me with a lot of recipes that I want to try.  But like any magazine, there's always a lot of things in it that don't interest me at all.

Today I decided to go through the magazines I had stacked in the living room and organize the recipes I want to try so I could put the magazines into the recycle bag and get rid of some clutter.

I took an inexpensive composition book and embellished it, added some tabs that I cut using From My Kitchen, and, like a Smashbook, I started smashing the recipes in sort of helter-skelter.  I do not plan to go back and add embellishments to the pages.  As I try a recipe, if we like it, I'll re-type it and do a page for my Cricut recipe album.

Here's a hint about doing layers or shadows for letters.  I placed my shadow paper on the bottom half of my 12 x 12 mat and the other color on the top half of the mat.  Then after I cut the letters out, I removed the top layer and left the shadow on the sticky mat.  It makes it super easy to apply the top layer that way.  No chasing the cutouts over your work table!  My top layer was applied using my Xyron sticker maker so I know they're all stuck down well.

This hint came from the old Cricut message board and I use it any time I have to layer small pieces.

The title on the book front was done with Plantin Schoolbook.  I just used some paper from a cooking themed stack and cut out some words to add.

The book has a few divider tabs just to make it easier to find recipes.  Once I try them, if they're not something we like, I can just jot a note beside it or tear the page out of the book.

Since it's almost 100° today it was just too stinkin' hot to do anything outside.  Organizing my recipes kept me occupied all afternoon and I do feel like I've accomplished something today!

One Hour Challenge Recipes

There's a thread on the Cricut Chat board called the One Hour Challenge.  Several nights a week we post something crafty that we've done and recently a few of us decided we'd do a recipe swap.

Starting this upcoming week, we're supposed to post a recipe that we've scrapped for everyone to see.  If they like it, they'll scrap it themselves and post their photos later.

Last fall I made myself an album of the recipes that I use the most so I created a new binder today to hold my MB recipes.

Rather than purchase an 8 x 8 album, which is what I really wanted but didn't have a coupon for Hobby Lobby and was too cheap to buy, I picked up a three-ring binder at Wal Mart and made this cover for it.

I used Cursive 101 for the title, From My Kitchen for the smaller words and Storefront for the bug head.

Here's the first page with a recipe from a MB member.  Thanks Theresa Klee for sending this one to me.  I love comfort food casseroles like this and will be trying it soon!

The word and hot mitts are cuts on From My Kitchen. Computer printed the recipe and mounted it on a frame from Wild Card.   I cut out an image from a sheet of retro-kitchen themed ones and put photo corners on it and used a couple of Graphic 45 punch outs too.  Of course there's a little Chesnut Brown inking going on and a few lines of doodling on there!

Recipe Album

Mary at CardzTV has a couple of videos up this week with full instructions on how to make these.  I'm debating turning one of them into a receipt folder to keep handy in my kitchen to tuck my cash register receipts inside when I come in from shopping.  That way if I need a receipt to return an item it will be easy to find.

The pockets are cut large enough to hold standard sized recipe cards.  Each pocket should hold 2-3 cards.

This one is done with Paper Studio Sugar and Spice stack from Hobby Lobby.

This one is done with DCWV Berry Street Farmer's Market stack that came out several months ago. This is the one that I'll probably turn into my receipt holder.

I used light weight cardboard and covered it with cardstock.

Cover is cut at 4 1/4" x 7"
Pocket for cover is cut at 2" x 7"

Inside pages were cut with From My Kitchen cartridge at 4".
Pockets for pages were cut at 2" x 6 3/4"

I used my Bind-it-all to assemble it.  I will be adding Cricut cut embellishments to each page too.

For each album I cut 2 fronts, 2 front pockets, 3 inside pages, 6 pockets for the pages.  I was able to make both albums using 3 sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" cardboard.

It took less than two hours to completely cut and assemble these so they're quick gifts.  It will take me much longer to decide what embellishments to use to finish them up!
