Preserves Cartridge Cards

One reason I'm so hesitant to replace my computer is because I still have Cricut Design Studio software and all the cartridges in it up to the last update before Provocraft abandoned the program.

Using Make The Cut and the print screen tool in Windows I can
capture, trace and cut any of the images in the hundreds of cartridges in Design Studio.

 These cards were inspired by some seen online a few years ago.

I had honestly forgotten about the cute images on the Preserves cartridge until searching through my "Ideas" folder and seeing
these.

 Make The Cut software makes it simple to trace and resize images.  It's also super easy to eliminate elements of the design that you don't want to use.

Each of these cards has pen work added and that makes me think of Mary Engelbright.

The edges were inked with Chestnut Roan ink.  I added some pen work with a white Signa pen and Stampin' Up markers.

The sentiment was printed on my computer and attached with some copper colored brads.

Cherry on Top Card

The cherries are from the Preserves cartridge.  The sentiment is a stamp I've had for a long time and I colored the cherries with BIC markers.  The background paper is from the cardstock Shirley and I found at Tuesday Morning during their big paper sale.

Plum Sweet Card

The plum is from Preserves cartridge and I computer printed the sentiment.  It's based on a card I saw online a long time ago and saved in my "Ideas" folder.

Once I saw my photo, I added some white pen stitching onto the leaves and the cut out of the plum and now it has much more dimension.

30 Minute Card

The apple on the Preserves cartridge was cut at 3" for this card.  I layered and stitched the polka dot centers and added some pen stitching around the edges.  The blue section was embossed with a Stampin' Up folder.

Another easy, quick card that can be used with a variety of sentiments.

Latest Recipe Pages

Several weeks ago, I posted some squash pickle recipes on my blog and just now got around to doing the pages for my recipe album.

 Preserves was used to cut the word "canning"  and the jar came from Doodlecharms.  That's an older cartridge but it will surprise you at how many useful cuts are on it!

Both word "squash" and the squash images were cut using the Freshly Picked cartridge.













I also did a page for the wonderful English Muffin recipe that I posted this week but the recipe was so long there wasn't much room left for any type of embellishment.  That page just has the recipe and a photo of the finished muffins on it.

Flower Card

The background on this is a page torn from an old encyclopedia that I found in a stack of free books at the library.

The flowers are made using an 1.75" and 1.5" scalloped punch. I used a Brocade Cuttlebug folder for some added texture on these. The centers are buttons stamped from SU's Button, Button stamp set and then punched using a Boho Blossom punch.

I printed the sentiment in my card making software and punched it with an 1.25" circle punch.  Added some inking to the edges for shading.

The grass is done with a SU scalloped border punch and I just cut some .25" strips to use for the stems.

The leaves were made with my Preserves cartridge.  They're a lemon that's cut at .714 x .615.  I sized it using Design Studio to fit.

This card was inspired by one I saw in an old issue of Cards Magazine.

Orange you special!

The orange and the leaves came from the Preserves cartridge.  I stamped the background with Tart and Tangy stamps from SU and did a little doodling on the edges of the background.

How hard could it be to make this card?  I thought I could whip multiples of it out in no time once I'd come up with the idea.  By the time I stamped a full page of the orange slices and had to clean the stamp multiple times to change ink colors and decided on what shades of orange to cut the image from, I believe it took me about two hours to get six of these done.  So much for a simple, fast card! LOL!  But, I do think it turned out kind of cute.

Simple Recipe Pages

 I am absolutely in a creative funk!  Nothing is inspiring me to make cards and so I whipped out these two recipe pages this afternoon.  Now, to get back into my "Ideas" folder and search for some card inspirations!


Chicken Spaghetti


8 oz. cooked chicken
3 cups cooked spaghetti—4 ½ oz. dry
3 oz. Velveeta Light
4 ½ oz. chopped green chilies
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
½ cup chopped onions
½ cup chopped bell pepper-cooked with spaghetti

Mix Velveeta with soup and chilies and heat.
Add remaining ingredients. Pour into greased
9 x 13 pan, cover and bake until hot

Pork
Hominy
Chopped onions
Minced garlic
1 can green chilies
oregano
cumin
canned tomatoes
small can tomato sauce


Brown pork on all sides.  Put into large
pot with other ingredients, add some
water and simmer until pork is tender.

Garnish with cilantro and serve with
Tortilla chips

SOUTH CAROLINA COBBLER

4 cups sliced, peeled peaches
   fresh or frozen, thawed
1 cup sugar, divided
½ tsp. almond extract
1/3 cup butter, melted
¾ cup all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
pinch salt
¾ cup milk


In a bowl, gently toss peaches, ½ cup sugar
and extract.  Pour melted butter into 2 qt.
baking dish.

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt
and remaining sugar; stir in milk until smooth.
Pour evenly over butter, do not stir.  Top with
peach mixture.

Bake at 350° for 50-55 minutes or until golden
brown.

Dimensional Cherry Card

I just love browsing through Splitcoast Stampers' galleries.  Every week there are hundreds of new projects posted on there.  This card was based on one posted by "Biggan".  On hers, she had used clay to make the cherries as well as the leaf they rest on top of. 

The cherries and the grape leaf were cut using the Preserves cartridge.  I embossed the grape leaf with the Brocade Cuttlebug folder and used a large dotted folder for the card base.  The cherries are pop dotted off the surface of the leaf.  I inked the edges of the fruit and added a highlight also.

I combined FOUR patterned papers!

Putting together four patterned papers may not sound like a big deal to a lot of people.  It may even be something I've done in the past using papers from a paper pack.  But, on this little card, I started from scratch and put these together so, that's an accomplishment for me!               **I still believe the reason it's so difficult for me to combine patterns is my hearing my mother's voice telling me, "Linda Faye, you cannot wear that blouse with that skirt!" And, like most kids, I blame all my problems on my mother! LOL!**

You may have to look closely to see that there actually are four different ones there, but there are!

The pears are from Preserves cartridge.  I HATE cutting and layering all the little pieces so I used a SU marker on the leaves and stems and a gelly roll pen to do the seeds.

The scalloped circles are a 2 3/8" and 2" Stampin Up punches.  I computer generated the sentiment and added some dots with a Signo pen.  There's Chestnut Brown inking on the pears and the card base.

All our Valentine's Day cards were sent to the troops several weeks ago but this one can definitely be used for an anniversary or to just drop a line to someone.

Today's cards

After getting my errands done this morning I got in here and started making cards.  All together I did six different styles of cards.  Of the first five styles, I made multiples since they're all CFS cards.

The stars on this one are from Plantin Schoolbook

I added a Peachy Keen face and some doodledots

The large dots in the corners were done with a SU mat stack and a black marker.  Then I added Glossy Accents.  The sentiment is a little Studio G stamp, punched with a SU label punch.

This card is made with Bermuda Bay paper and ink from SU.  The two images in the center were aligned using a Stamp-a-ma-jig.  I cut them out with my shaped scissors.  Added some stick on pearls and a bow. 



 I stamped a swirl design on the gray background

and then mattted it onto some black cardstock.

Using a black Sharpie I drew lines 1/4" from the

edge of the mat.

The little tree stamp is one I've had a long time.  I put it onto some grey paper, matted it with black too and added some stick on pearls.

The cherries are from Preserves cartridge. I added some accents with my white Signo pen and SU markers.  The decorative edge was done with a SU border punch, sentiment was computer generated.

The background on this card is SU chocolate chip

cardstock.  The fuschia paper is from Coredinations

I rounded the corners with my Corner Chomper

and added some stick on pearls.

Peachy Keen Faces and Preserves Cartridge

My first card with Peachy Keen stamps as well as my Preserves cartridge.   It's a good thing I use Design Studio because the center of the apple didn't fit!  When I used the cuts shown on page 27 in the handbook, the white inside part of the apple cuts the same size as the red portion.

It was relatively simple to resize it and hide the seed cut lines in Design Studio but this may be another example of a flaw in a cartridge that Provocraft didn't catch before they released the cartridge.
