Making Christmas Cards - Day 7

Whew!  I've spent the last week working on Christmas cards for hours and hours.  To date, I have a total of 161 cards.  My original goal was to make a card for each of the residents at a nursing home/rehab center that my husband used for physical therapy following surgeries.  I knew I needed no less than 85.  I've met my goal and have extras to send to a friend who "volunteered" to make 150 cards for two other nursing centers.

Swiss Dots embossing folder was used on the base.  The image is clip art found online.  I pop dotted it for dimension.  The sentiment was computer generated.
This is a punch art card.  I embossed 2" circles and cut them in half for the collar. The half circles are pop dotted for dimension. The buttons are 1/2" circles with white gel pen dots.  The buckle is a 1" square with a 3/4" square punched out of the center.
The Christmas trees were cut with my Cameo.  I cut them 2" tall and embossed one with a Swiss Dot folder.  The 1 1/4" red strip was embossed with a Darice folder.  The sentiment was printed using Hallmark Car Studio software.

Each of these cards was inspired by ones seen online.

Making Christmas Cards -- Day 6

It's taken me all afternoon to get just eight of these assembled.  You'd think as many years as I've spent making cards and using software I'd remember to save a file once it's completed!  I accidentally turned the power off on my Cameo, caused an error in Make The Cut and had to restart the program.  "Poof!" the file was gone!

This card was designed by Pam McKay.  I changed it slightly by adding the white pen work.

The gingerbread men are from the Cricut cartridge Gingerbread and cut at 3/4" tall,   The details were added with markers.  I pop dotted them for dimension.

The oven mitts are from the Cricut cartridge From My Kitchen.

I used a partial image and white kraft ink for the trees.  The birds were cut with my Cameo.
It's not evident in the photo, the star is gold metallic cardstock.
The bird and branch were done with a Stampin' Up punch.  The sentiment is also by Stampin' Up.

Making Christmas Cards -- Day 4

An image from Lovely as a Tree stamps was embossed with blue embossing powder.  I added some red Stickles dots.
Gold embossing powder was used for the trees, snowflakes and sentiment.
The tree was cut from silver metallic paper using my Cameo.  I added some silver Stickles dots and a tiny red bird.
The ornament shape was printed and cut using my Cameo.

Each of the cards in this post were inspired by designs sen online.

Making Christmas Cards -- Day 3

The stocking is a clip art image.  I printed it then embossed the background.
 Another clip art image.
The words were cut using my Cameo.  The Santa face is a clip art image.  This is a card I've made in the past.  I think it's cute so decided to duplicate it.
The stick horse is a clip art image found online and printed using my Cameo.
I printed the words and cut them by hand and added
some white gel pen stitiching.
Another duplicated card from prior years.

Making Christmas Cards - Day 2

Today was not very productive.  I got a late start and only managed to get one layout designed and completed.  There are eight of these for the rehab centers.

The ornaments are clip art images traced and cut from silver metallic cardstock.

I used silver Brilliance ink and randomly stamped different sized snowflakes onto an 8 1/2 x 11" sheet of white cardstock.  Then I computer printed the sentiment and cut it into four pieces for four card fronts.

It was inspired by a card seen online.

Making Christmas Cards - Day 1

Last week I delivered a large box of cards to the rehab center that my husband used following some surgeries.  The activities director was very appreciative and asked if I could do some Christmas cards for the residents.  We visited for a few minutes and she told me they average 85 residents and I agreed to make enough cards for everyone.  Since the number of residents varies and I wanted to have some cards that the residents could use to send to their family members or to exchange with others in the facility, I rounded the number up to 100.

A few days later a friend let me know that she's been given the task of making cards for 150 additional residents at two other centers and I told her I'd get as many made for her as possible.

These are the cards I've completed so far.  Twenty five down and a lot more to go!

The sentiment was computer printed.  The tree is from Lovely as a Tree stamp set.  I added some red Stickles dots for trim on the tree.
The candy cane image is a print and cut that I had left over from last year's cards.  The background was embossed with a snowflake folder.
We R Memory Keeper border punch was used for the lower edge.  I cut the tree with my Cameo and added Stickles dots for trim.
The Santa face is a clip art image.  The border was done with a We R Memory Keeper punch.
The sentiment was stamped.  I added some pen work with a white gel pen to the upper and lower edges of the red card front.  The red portion is cut off so the sentiment shows across the bottom of the interior.
Same card, just with a solid red front.
I just cut out the clip art Santa face and pop dotted it for dimension.

The snowman is a print and cut image.
The jar is a print and cut image.  I printed the word on the band around the jar.  The sentiment is a stamp I've had for a long time.

Metallic Gold and Pink Mica Butterfly Card

The butterfly is an image I traced and cut from pink mica paper.  The sentiment is from Stampin' Up Whimsical Words set.  I deckled the edges using a pair of scissors. The sentiment and the leaves were stamped using gold metallic ink.  The flowers were stamped with Melon Mambo ink.

Bricks Card

While searching for some card inspiration online I saw some cards done by inking embossing folders for the background.   I figured that doing the inking would be pretty messy so instead I just used a Stampin' Up marker and colored in the openings in the embossed background.  It was simple to do and didn't take long at all.

The flower pot was stamped using black Memento ink before the background was embossed with a Tim Holtz folder. .  After embossing, I colored it with Promarkers.

Cinnamon Roll Recipe

This recipe comes from a booklet I received in high school home economics class.  It was published by Fleischmann yeast company in 1962.

RICH DINNER ROLLS
1 cup milk
¼ cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
½ stick margarine
½ cup warm water
2 packages yeast
2 eggs, beaten
5 ¼ cups flour

Scald milk, stir in sugar, salt and margarine.  Cool to lukewarm. Measure warm water into a large mixing bowl, add yeast and stir until dissolved.  Add milk mixture, eggs and 2 cups of flour.  Beat until smooth.  Stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough.  Turn out onto a lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.  Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top.  Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk.

Punch down.  Torn out on lightly floured board.  Proceed according to directions for cinnamon rolls or shape and bake as dinner rolls.

CINNAMON ROLLS
Divide dough into two pieces.  Roll out until it’s a little more than ¼” thick.  Spread with melted margarine, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.  Roll up and slice about  1 ½” thick.  Bake at 350° For about 20-25 minutes or until done.
Mix powdered sugar and milk for a glaze and spread onto rolls while still warm.

Autumn Wishes Card

The embossing folder is from Stampin' Up.  I used a leaf stamp from their Lovely As A Tree set and Memento ink.

The sentiment was computer printed and punched with a 2" scalloped circle punch.

CASED from a card seen online.

Notebook Paper Card

Inspired by a card seen online.  I used a clip art image of the notebook paper and pencil.  The left edge of the paper was punched.  I printed an extra pencil and pop dotted it for dimension.  The brackets were cut with my Cameo and are from the Billionaire cartridge. The pen stitching was done with a Stampin' Up marker.

Hot Chicken Salad

This is a recipe that was really popular during the 70's.  I hadn't made it in a really long time and after running across it in my recipe box this week decided to give it a try.

Hot Chicken Salad

2 ½ cups cooked chicken
½ cup mayonnaise
1 cup thinly sliced celery
½ can Cream of Chicken soup
½ cup chicken broth
2 oz. pimientos
1 T. slivered almonds
1 can water chestnuts, chopped
1 cup grated Monterey Jack cheese
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
8 ½ oz. can chow mein noodles

Combine all ingredients except noodles and put into a
9 x 13 baking dish.   Top with noodles.  Bake at 350°
until hot and bubbly.

***I used a 5 oz. can of noodles and it was too much.
Half of the can would have been plenty. ***
